Session 11   Suspension system

Q.1. What is suspension system ?

Ans. It is the term refers to spring, shock absorber and linkages which connects vehicle to wheels.

Q.2. What is the principle of suspension system?

Ans. (i) To restrict road vibrations from being transmitted to th various components of the vehicle .

(ii) To protect the passengers from road shocks

(iii) To maintain the stability of vehicle in pitching and rolling

Q.3. What are the main components of suspension system ?( सस्पेंशन सिस्टम के मुख्य भाग क्या क्या है ?)

Ans. (i) Control arm                                                                                                                       (ii) Control arm busing                                                                                                                         (iii) Stent rod                                                                                                                                       (iv) Ball joint                                                                                                                     (v) Shock absorber or struts                                                                                                     (vi) Stablizer

Q.4. Tell about sprung weight and upsprung weight.

Ans. Sprung weight (सपरंग भार): Weight of vehicle frame, body, engine, transmission which is supported by suspension system is called spring weight. Generally its share is about 65-80% of the vehicle weight.

Unsprung weight (अनसपरंग भार):  Some parts of vehicle which are fitted between suspension system and road surface and not supported by suspension system. Weight of these parts are know as spring weight.
